The wheelchair is documented as a mobility aid, usually at no cost, and the battery can travel installed. Notify your airline when you book and 48 hours before your flight; some may require prior approval. Each airline sets its policy: confirm it before flying. Turn off the chair, disconnect the battery cables or main connector and insulate the terminals with tape or caps: that is mandatory to prevent a short circuit. The lead-acid battery DOES NOT go in the cabin — travels in cargo, inside the documented wheelchair. If the airline decides to remove it, they will package it in a rigid container.
